RFI Lithium Battery Safety Guidelines and Instructions

WARNING: Please read and understand the Safety Guidelines and Instructions in it’s entirety before using or charging
your RFI Lithium Polymer battery. Failure to do so may result in fire, personal injury, or damage to property if used
improperly. This battery is intended for ages 14 years and above. RFI Batteries and its Distributors assume no liability
for failure to comply with the Guidelines and Instructions. The buyer assumes all risks associated with this product.
General Warnings and Guidelines:
1. Always use a Lithium specific charger only. Chargers meant for NiCd or NiMH batteries only are not appropriate for charging Lithium (LiPo) batteries, as they use a different charge scheme. Failure to do so may result in fire, which could cause personal injury or property damage. 2. Visually inspect the LiPo battery before each use or charge. If you observe any damage to the pack or the connecting wires, DO
NOT charge or use the battery.
3. Never leave any battery unattended while charging. Always monitor the battery during the charge process. 4. Charging should be carried out on a flat, non-flammable surface away from any combustible materials. Using a battery bag such as a RFI “LiPo-Safe” # 6510 or 6520 is highly recommended. 5. If at any time you notice the battery begin to swell or “balloon”, immediately discontinue use or charging. Disconnect the battery from the model or charger, and place in a safe area, outside and away from any flammable materials and observe for 15 minutes, then dispose of properly. 6. Be very careful not to short the lead wires, as this could cause a fire. Shorting could occur during soldering of connectors or while cutting off connectors. Be sure to completely insulate one pole of the connector while soldering the other. Also, if cutting off a connector, cut only one wire at a time to avoid shorting the battery. If a short should occur, even a very brief short, place battery in a safe, non-flammable area and observe for 15 minutes. 7. In the event of a crash, remove the battery from the model and observe in a safe place for 15 minutes. 8. Never use the battery in any manner other than what it was intended for. 9. Never puncture the battery, or if you notice a puncture, discontinue use, and dispose of properly. 10. Do not disassemble or modify the battery pack in any way, doing so may result in fire, which could cause personal injury or 11. Do not allow the battery to be discharged below 3.0 volts per cell under load. 12. Store batteries at room temperature (between 40 and 70 degrees F). 13. If storing for an extended period of time, you must store with approximately a 50% charge. 1. Always use a charger designed to charge LiPo batteries. 2. Never leave battery unattended while charging. 3. Always remove your battery from the model before charging. 4. Always allow the battery to cool to room temperature before charging. 5. Charging should be carried out on a flat, non-flammable surface away from any combustible materials. Using a battery bag such as a RFI “LiPo-Safe” # 6510 or 6520 is highly recommended. 6. Never charge the battery higher than a 1C charge rate. (1C is 1 times the capacity of the battery. For example, a 3200mAh battery should be charged at 3.2 amps, an 800mAh battery should be charged at 0.8 amps.) 7. Always confirm all of your settings are correct before charging the battery, especially the cell count. Failure to do so may result in fire, which could cause personal injury or property damage. 8. Do not attempt to charge a battery that has a no load voltage below 3.3 volts per cell. 9. Do not charge more than one battery in series 10. It is recommended that you balance the pack while charging. 1. Discharge battery down as low as possible, 1 volt per cell or below is acceptable. (If battery is already punctured, then skip to step 2. Only after the pack has a no load voltage of 1 volt per cell or less, cut a small slit into each cell.
3. Submerse battery in a solution of ½ cup salt to 1 gallon of water for at least 24 hours.
4. Place in a plastic bag and throw away in your normal trash.
