Effective March 1, 2012, if you participate in the BPS Health Plan, administered by CIGNA, you now have smoking cessation medications and aids as part of your pharmacy benefits. • Zyban - Bupropion hcl, marketed as name brand Zyban, is an anti-depressant drug that also
works well as a smoking cessation aid. It has been shown to dramatically reduce physical
withdrawal symptoms associated with nicotine.
GENERIC: Written as Bupropion hcl – 150 MG Tablet; Tier 1, $15 co-pay for 30-day supply;
$30 for 90-day Mail Order.
NON-PREFERRED BRAND: Written as Zyban – 150 MG Tablet; Non-Preferred Brand, Tier 3,
$70 co-pay for 30-day supply; $140 for 90-day Mail Order.
• Chantix - Discovered and developed by Pfizer, Inc, varenicline tartrate is marketed under
the trademark of Chantix. Approved by the FDA in May 2006, Chantix has the unique ability
to partially activatein the brain, reducing a person's craving for nicotine
when he quits smoking. Additional y, if a person smokes during the course of Varenicline
treatment, the drug impedes smoking satisfaction by blocking nicotine from binding with
these same receptors.
GENERIC: Not Available.
PREFERRED BRAND: Written as Chantix – 0.5(11) Tab DS PK; 0.5 MG Tablet; and 1 MG
Tablet; Preferred Brand, Tier 2, $40 co-pay for 30-day supply; $80 for 90-day Mail Order
• Nicotrol Inhaler - The nicotine inhaler is a NRT that consists of a plastic cigarette-like tube
that houses a replaceable nicotine cartridge and a mouthpiece. The cartridge contains
nicotine which is released into the user's mouth and throat when inhaled.
GENERIC: Not Available.
PREFERRED BRAND: Written as Nicotrol 10 MG Cartridge;
Preferred Brand, Tier 2, $40 co-pay for 30-day supply; $80 for 90-day Mail Order

• - Nicotine nasal spray is a prescription medicine that reduces cravings to smoke when a nicotine solution is sprayed into the nose. The solution is absorbed into
the bloodstream through the nasal mucosa.
GENERIC: Not Available.
PREFERRED BRAND: Written as Nicotrol NS 10 MG/ML Spray;
Preferred Brand, Tier 2, $40 co-pay for 30-day supply; $80 for 90-day Mail Order
The fol owing NRT products are not covered under the BPS Health Plan Pharmacy benefits. You
may purchase any of these as Over-The-Counter (OTC) products without a prescription. You
can then submit manually for reimbursement through your Medical Flexible Spending (FSA) for
reimbursement. These typical y cost $49 to $59 for a 30-day supply. Generics are also available
and are equally as effective.
• Nicotine Patch: The nicotine patch provides a steady, control ed dose of nicotine
throughout the day, thereby reducing the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Patch strength is reduced over time, allowing the user to wean themselves off nicotine gradually. The NRT Patch is available in three levels; 21 mg, 14 mg, and 7 mg. and dosage level is based upon number of cigarettes smoked daily. • Nicotine Lozenge: The nicotine lozenge is a NRT that comes in the form of a small,
candy-like tablet. When placed in the mouth and al owed to dissolve, nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream. It is available in 4 mg and 2 mg. • Nicotine Gum: Used as a chewing gum, nicotine gum comes in two strengths: 2mg for
people who smoke less than 25 cigarettes a day and 4mg for those who smoke 25 or more cigarettes a day. Additionally, covered BPS Health Plan participants may access additional help through CIGNA’S
Lifestyle Management Program for Tobacco Cessation. Employees and their covered
dependents can enrol in the Free Smoking Cessation programs, either on-line or telephonic
Health Coaching which includes four FREE weeks of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Contact

FREE SMOKING CESSATION RESOURCES. These are available for anyone not covered under the
BPS Health Plan, as well as anyone within our community.
QUIT SMOKING NOW! CLASSES – 1-87-QUIT- NOW-6 (1-877-Quit-Now-6) or
– Classes are held within the community to provide education,
support, and FREE Nicotine Replacement Therapy (patches). The one-hour classes meet once a
week for five consecutive weeks.
FLORIDA QUIT LINE HEALTH COACH – 1-877-U-CAN-NOW (1-877-822-6669) –Free Telephonic
or online Health Coaching plus FREE Nicotine Replacement Therapy (gum, patches, or lozenges).
