FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Ottawa – May 6, 2013 – After the successful, award-winning run of Roller Derby Saved My Soul, Broken
Turtle Productions returns to the Ottawa Fringe Festival with something a little different: the world
premiere of Edward Allen Baker’s Dolores in an original French translation. Translated by Ottawa expat
and Broken Turtle’s Artistic Producer, Nancy Kenny, the production is directed by Tania Levy and
features Kenny and newcomer Martine Roquebrune as Dolores and her sister Sandra respectively.
This production will be taking place in the kitchen of St Paul’s Eastern United Church. Fringe performers
have frequently used the building as a venue in the past few years, but the kitchen, which was used in the
first incarnation of SubDevision, adds a new twist. “I’m a big fan of theatre that creates voyeurs out of the
audience,” says Kenny. “This is such an beautiful, intimate show. The first time I read it, I never once
envisioned it taking place on a stage, but in an actual kitchen.”

About the play:
Finally enjoying a day for herself, Sandra's down time is interrupted by the impromptu
arrival of her sister, Dolores. Set in the family kitchen, this is the story of a woman who escapes her
abusive husband and seeks help from a sister who doesn't want to get involved. Originally created in
1986, Dolores is a touching and often humorous tale about sisterhood and family dynamics. This will be
the world-premiere of its original French translation by Ottawa expat, Nancy Kenny.
An Acadian originally from New Brunswick, Kenny feels that after years of writing and performing in
English, Ottawa audiences may be surprised to find out that French is actually her mother tongue. She
adds “Dolores was written in a very colloquial English which reminded me a lot of the type of French
spoken back home. The translation process felt very organic.” Dolores is her first original translation.
Seating is limited to 15 people per performance. Tickets are $10 at the door. Multiple festival show
passes may be purchased at a discounted rate through the Ottawa Fringe Festival. Visit
