Professional activity: Medical gynaecologist consultant at St Anna University Hospital, Ferrara (Italy) since 1981 until 2009. Since 2009 – today: gynecologist consultant at Menopause-Osteoporosis Unit - Estense Private Medical Center (Via B. S. Stefano 3, Ferrara, Italy). Summary of Scientific Activity: The research of Dr. Pansini began in the Clinical Chemistry section at the Bari University School of Medicine within the frame of a collaborative approach between the Departments of Internal Medicine and of Biochemistry. With the time, interest shifted towards endocrine regulation of liver regeneration and the role of systemic or gut- associated hormones (including gastrin, insulin and glucagon). After moving to the Obstetric and Gynaecology department of the University of Bari and later of Ferrara, research finalized to relationships between steroid hormones dependent growth, metabolism of cyclic nucleotides and hormonal regulation in menopause, including surgical and spontaneous models in humans. These studies focused largely also on metabolic derangements in menopause including alterations in carbohydrate/lipid and in bone metabolism. Dr. Pansini was also able to transfer much of this activity from basic research to clinical applications, including interesting observations on the relationships between steroid hormones and cyclic nucleotide metabolism and presently effects of steroid hormone deprivation and oxidative challenge. As Director of the “Menopause and Osteoporosis Centre” at the University of Ferrara he is an expert in the application of DEXA methodology in clinical approaches to female osteoporotic syndrome. Recently, he expertizes in the management of climacteric women by BHT (Bioidentical Hormone Therapy) at private Clinical Center “Estense” located in Ferrara, Italy.
