Acute Exposure:

Metronidazole TDLo
Metronidazole is used in human therapeutics ait dose rates of 400 – 800mg three times daily for 5 – 10 days. The concentration of metronidazole in Metrin Solution is 5mg/mL, and it is presented in a 50mL vial (ie total of 250mg metronidazole per vial). Human toxicosis resulting from exposure to Metrin is extremely unlikely. Adverse effects of metronidazole are generally dose related, and may include gastrointestinal disturbances and headaches. Higher doses may cause peripheral neuropathies, ataxia and seizures. Swallowed
Metronidazole is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Eye
May cause irritation.
Skin
May irritate skin abrasions.

May cause adverse effects as detailed above. Effects generally subside when metronidazole source is
removed.

FIRST AID:
Wash off any product contacting skin using soap and water.
Swallowed
No specific first aid required for ingestion of small doses of metronidazole.
Eye
If in eyes, hold eyes open, flood with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical assistance if required.
Skin
If skin contact occurs remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.
Inhaled
No specific requirements.
